042) Lettuce leaves
Lettuce leaves remind me of mother’s hands
So gracefully adorning them
Like gilded, stoned, ornaments
On her home-made salad

Lettuce leaves remind me of that practical
Of Biology in the laboratory
Our teacher explaining osmosis

Lettuce leaves remind me of the first dinner
Candle – light dinner
With my husband in Samarkhand restaurant

Lettuce leaves remind me of my youngest child
Who enjoyed eating them so much

Lettuce leaves remind me of caterpillars
(My hair stands)
I don’t know if they eat these
Hopefully they do

Lettuce leaves remind me of an Engineer
A master Engineer -
One who engineered you, me
My mom, my bio teacher,
My husband, my youngest child,
Caterpillars,
And also lettuce leaves!

And also this world,
And everything in it.
