The World was her world
The world was her world -
Spangly lights, glitter, and smiles on empty faces
Crowded in to eat away her breath:
She held it all at bay with bitter-sweet sarcasm,
Defined the world's limits with her own limits -

Wouldn't do that,
Wouldn't go so far,
Wouldn't give money, smile at strangers,
Talk on the buses, walk in the leaves,
Hold his hand,
Sit at THAT table, eat foreign food,
Wear the wrong kind of makeup, those clothes,
Drive in that car, be civil to that person
(The wrong sort of person)
Read those sorts of books
Be dirty, be naked,
Be bad
Be insane -

She was that sort of girl,
Wouldn't do nothing,
Wouldn't do well:

-unknown -
