Hunt

Humorous poem looking at hunting from an oblique angle - what if it wasn't animals being hunted? ,

Hunt
They shot him in the evening,
After a long days hunting :
Cornered him in some old haunt,
Marched in, firing their guns.

Of course his head's mounted now,
Stuck on a piece of wood
With a photo of the place he was found -
And there they stand, on him - on the ground.

A splendid chase, and fun was had by all :
The dogs barked as they pickded up his scent,
Tracking him along a wall -
It was an evening well spent.

And now we stand, drinks in hand,
Admiring the bold forehead, that proud snout,
Imagining his bellow of rage, last shout
As he dropped heavily in his last stand.

Ah! Fond memories, our host tells us, wiping away a tear :
You should have seen the look of surprise
When we popped up from behind him,
Cigar in hand, in his old chair !!
