Tell her I love her…

This is a poem of love, separation, and magical messengers. It's a poem Poe would have loved. And I think you will, too…,

Tell her I love her…
O halcyon bird with wings of grace
Why have you come to my windowsill?
You bring me a message and send me her love!
And tell me that her heart misses me still!

O halcyon bird with eyes of pure gold,
I feel the love that is shining from thee,
But I see a diamond teardrop unfold,
You long to return to your halcyon sea!
But first take her this message, a message from me!

Tell her that I must remain for a while,
My task has not ended, I've a long way to go!
Tell her I love her, and my heart is still broken,
But thank her for sending me you as a token
of love, that's within her, and too within me,
Return to the sea with that message from me!

And tell her I miss her one day at a time,
And that I remember the days, now of yore,
Tell her I know now of love everlasting,
Of time never-ending, of hearts slowly mending,
Then kiss her pale cheeks and her ruby-red lips,
And tell her you found me as well as can be,
Then return to your sea, the halcyon sea.
