Cold But Still There

This is a haunting story within a story, of a weekend that was more than it seemed and will never be forgotten.,

Cold But Still There
As white as the snow outside
and it kept us drinking
for three days,
our voices raw from smoking,
talking possibilities,
and singing old songs,
everybody both hunter and prey -
We knew our game well.

You've been there,
for you have lived as I have.
It's nothing new,
nothing that hasn't been done,
Just partying,
But despite everything,
you never left my mind,
even though you're
on the other side of the ocean.

On that winter weekend
the blizzards reigned outside -
a world based on
music cigarettes drugs screws
laughter friendship and haze.

But I only saw
your eyes green
as aurora borealis,
your hair
like an element of nature,
and would have murdered
for the touch of your hand on my cheek.
