Whale Of A Tale

Bobbing along in my boat on the bay,
Enjoying a beautiful, nautical day,
When just about to hoist the sail,
I came face to face with a very large whale.

It's what's called a panic situation,
Recommended as a cure for constipation,
I screamed and shouted to no avail,
No one to hear except the whale.

He just waited for the noise to abate,
Then sort of pulled himself up straight
And asked me very matter of factly,
If I could tell him where we were exactly.

It seemed that he'd been left behind,
While looking for something he couldn't find,
The rest of the pod had gone ahead,
'And I'm hopeless at navigation,' he said.

'I'm trying to get to Hervey Bay,
Should have been there yesterday.
I booked this trip ages ago,
It's quite a spectacle, you know.

Thousands of humans take to the ocean,
Peering, pointing; what a commotion.
Perhaps you've heard what it's all about,
What makes them stand up, point and shout.

We've been watching them for years,
I've got a regular booking,
We laugh 'till we cry when the waves are real high,
And they get a right good ducking.

Some say we all go to watch one another,
Watch one another do what?
We look at them, they look at us,
Wouldn't think it achieved a lot.'
