This Is Why Cats Have At Least Two Lives

When Earth first purred
and started to rotate,
an enigmatic lad with no name
wrote this poem on feline fate:

My father's father ate
your mother's mother's soul
with a half-glass of milk
and an unbuttered roll.

He carefully cut away
all unwanted fat,
and satisfied with his slice of spirit,
he fed the rest to his cat.
