The Squidge
The Squidge is thought to be unique
And this why birdwatchers seek
His native habitat.

They paddle through the minor fens,
Each with his telephoto lens,
And curious wildlife hat.

Pursued by fly, attacked by midge,
They hunt for the elusive Squidge
Wherever he is at,

Fearing to find him up a creek,
Defenceless, lonely, cold and weak,
On some damp reedbed sat.

He is not there. From dawn till late
The Squidge goes searching for a mate.
It has occurred to him

Uniqueness is more bane than boon
And, should a mate not show up soon,
Squidge prospects may be grim.

Do not despair. On yonder ridge
Sits, beckoning, a female Squidge
