Some Nature Studies

I took an aged maiden aunt
To view a herd of elephant.
Their rumblings, which disturbed her rather,
Reminded her, she said, of father.
She added, pince-nez to her eyes,
"There's no resemblance otherwise."

They say th'inscrutable Chinee
Takes powdered tiger bone with tea
To make him potent. How bizarre
These wily Orientals are.

And his reward for being wily?
A Chinese wife extremely smiley!

The jackal's image is not good.
Consider how he bolts his food
Which may be carrion, I suspect,
That even leopards will reject.

Keep both your feet inside the tent -
The jackal does not fast for Lent.

The condor through the Andes swoops
Performing barrel rolls and loops.
Alas, each aerobatic trick
Makes the poor condor very sick.

Meanwhile the watching natives ponder
What is the fun in being a condor?
