Men
Death was abundant today
Faced many beings
In many ways;
Shuffled Its lot upon a wagon
Red tears cried from
severed bellies in the snow
Death enriched
and It glowed.
Endued with an enthralling
Apparition,
Its film rippled swiftly
so to embrace
The Men in the ranks
Grabbing them by their legs
Eating them to rags
and clay
Thus Death gave a nation
But took its Men away
Death smiled hearedly
to those whom It had bred
But thought to feed on them as well
And as maneuvres and stern faces
cracked beneath It
Declining in a gore
of reverence
Seething, seeping, squashing, raping,
Melting, frothing, gnashing
It served a bed to the men
whom Death had praised.
